CPI(ML) Protests Bombing on Chinese Embassy

CPI(ML) organised a nationwide Protest Day against the missile attack on the Chinese embassy in Belgrade on May 11. Various forms of protest were adopted at different political centres throughout the country clearly exhibiting the hatred against NATO-US aggression on the one hand and friendship and unity with China and anti-imperialist sentiment of the party and the people on the other.

In Patna, a protest rally marched to Patna Radio Station and turned into a mass meeting there addressed by Party State Secretary Com. RJ Sharma, CCM Com. KD Yadav, AISA GS Com. Ranjit Abhigyan and others. Terming NATO as a "terrorist outfit of Western Powers" they demanded that bombing on and genocide of Slavs must immediately be stopped and NATO should be disbanded, as losing all its relevance it has indulged in nuisances like attack on civilians, particularly on the Chinese embassy. They said that in a brazen attempt to bring the entire globe under its umbrella the USA has turned into the number one enemy of world peace and sovereignty of nations; it is deliberately defying all set international norms of coexistence, democracy and human rights. Stressing on the 'historical necessity' of friendship of India, China and Russia against US hegemonism they severely criticized the lukewarm official Indian stand and called on the masses to exhibit their anti-imperialist sentiments more vigorously and vociferously. The demonstrators displayed a mercury tube symbolising people's anti-imperialist missile.

In contrast to the official celebrations of Pokhran II, AISA and RYA observed the day as "anti-militarisation Day" and sharply attacked the BJP-led government's campaign of militarisation of the country and escalation of war hysteria in the Indian subcontinent.

Defying continuous rains Calcutta demonstrators marched to the US Information Centre and clashed with the heavy contingent of the police. They were addressed by CPI(ML) CC members Comrades Shankar Mitra and Partho Ghosh and Com. Arijit Mitra.

In Lucknow, demonstrators marched to the state assembly and burnt the effigy of the US President there.

At the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup in Assam, a dharna was staged and the US flag was burnt. The memorandum demanded "ensure the withdrawal of NATO troops from the Balkan states immediately, stop attack on Yugoslavia, put a halt on intervention into the Balkan affairs and let they solve their problems on their own and dismantle the NATO".

In Delhi, the demonstrators defied the police cordon and marched to the US Centre for Information and Commerce and burnt the effigy of the US President and NATO. Party CC member Com. Kumudini Pati, State Secretary Com. Rajendra Pratholi and others addressed the gathering.

Demonstrations and effigy burning have been reported from other corners of the country also, for instance from cities like Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
